Hit the Button is simple to learn: a question appears in the middle of the screen and the possible answers appear on buttons around it. Hit the correct button as fast as you can before the 60-second timer runs out.
Step by step
- Choose a topic – Times Tables, Number Bonds, Division, Doubling, Halving, Square Numbers or Fractions.
- Choose the numbers – for example a single times table (2× to 12×), all tables mixed, or number bonds to 10, 20 or 100.
- Pick a level – Easy, Medium or Hard.
- Press Start Game and answer as many questions as you can in 60 seconds.
- Check your score – see how many you got right and wrong, save your score and try to beat your best.
Scoring
You score a point for every correct answer. Wrong answers do not add to your score, so accuracy matters as much as speed.
Tips to get a higher score
- Practise one table at a time before trying mixed questions.
- Learn the patterns: the 9× answers’ digits add up to 9; the 5× answers end in 0 or 5.
- Use facts you know to work out ones you don’t: 6 × 7 = 6 × 5 + 6 × 2.
- Keep your eyes on the question and scan the buttons, rather than reading every button in order.
- Play a little every day – your speed will improve quickly.
