FAQ

Is Hit the Button free?

Yes. Every game mode is completely free, with no login or subscription required.

What age is Hit the Button for?

Children aged 5–11, from Year 1 to Year 6 (Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2). Younger children usually start with number bonds and doubling; older children work on mixed times tables, division and square numbers.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. The game runs in the web browser and works on computers, tablets, phones and interactive whiteboards. There is nothing to download.

What topics can my child practise?

Times tables (2× to 12×), number bonds to 10, 20 and 100, division facts, doubling, halving, square numbers and fractions. See all game modes.

How long does a game last?

Each round lasts 60 seconds. The aim is to answer as many questions correctly as possible in that time.

Can teachers use it in class?

Yes – it works well on an interactive whiteboard as a starter or plenary. See our guide for teachers.

Will it help with the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check?

Practising mixed times tables against the clock is good preparation for the MTC, which asks 25 questions with 6 seconds per question. Read our MTC preparation guide.

How often should my child play?

A few minutes every day is more effective than one long session a week. Two or three 60-second rounds is plenty. See our tips for parents.
