Free number bonds game – bonds to 10, 20 and 100
Number bonds are pairs of numbers that add up to a target, such as 7 + 3 = 10 or 64 + 36 = 100. This free game helps children recall them instantly. Choose →10, →20 or →100 and hit the missing number before the 60 seconds run out.
Why number bonds matter
Fast recall of number bonds makes mental addition and subtraction much easier. A child who knows 8 + 2 = 10 can quickly work out 38 + 2, 80 + 20 or 10 − 8. Bonds to 10 are taught in Year 1, bonds to 20 in Year 1–2, and bonds to 100 in Year 2–3.
Tips
- Master bonds to 10 first – bonds to 20 and 100 build on them.
- Spot patterns: if 6 + 4 = 10, then 16 + 4 = 20 and 60 + 40 = 100.
- Say the pairs out loud while playing to strengthen memory.
